Ethnobotany: The pinon pine has a long history of use. Some of the oldest remnants have been carbon dated to 600o years ago. For Indians of the Southwest, their very origins are intertwined with the pinon. The nuts provided and important food, the resin was used waterproof basketry and to cement turquoise into silver settings. Pitch was applied by the Navaho to their deceased before burial and the Hopi dabbed pitch on their foreheads to protects themselves from sorcery (Lanner, 1981). The pinon tree is my grandmother tree. The aromatics stir up a deep ancestral feeling for me. Emotionally and energetically the aromatics strengthen and rejuvenate the spirit. it uplifts and purifies which supports nearly every system of the body.
